Giving Thanks

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving, I know Gordon and I definitely did. The week started out kind of nerve wrecking because I started my new job at Western United on Monday. I was so nervous when I got there my first day, the company is huge and the building is so intimidating. They are located off of the 405S off of Jamboree in the old Fluor Daniel building, you know, with the circular towers around them, next to Palace Park. This building has a huge food court in the middle, a gym, gift-shop and you can go to the Prudential building across from it in an underground tunnel, amazing!

I am so happy to be at a large corporation once again, it has definitely been a long time due. I am so sick of small company’s. At this company, I get a free gym membership, free AAA, discount on my car insurance through AAA, along with my medical and dental insurance I can get pet insurance and the list just goes on and on. I was telling the girl who is training me that at AOP I logged on average 800 calls a month, mostly all complaints and I was only getting paid $12.00 an hour, but I got the job only wanting to be a receptionist and light customer service and it morphed into full time receptionist, customer service, proofer and shipper, it was ridiculous, and to get a promotion I would only be making a dollar more with more stress. At Western United I am making much more money and they average 200 calls a month, pretty crazy huh. And the great thing about this place is that they don’t mind family working at the same company, as long as they are not under the same supervisor, so that means I will be trying to get Gordon in.

So yesterday for Thanksgiving we went out to Victorville and spent the day with Gordon’s family eating turkey. It was nice to be back in California this year for the holidays, we really missed hanging out and celebrating it with our families but we do miss Oregon a lot and have been rather home sick for it lately. We hope to be back there again someday to raise our family. And speaking of Oregon, our friend Miki, her brother Roy and her roommate Ben are down from Oregon this weekend, so tomorrow we will be inviting them over for some of Gordon’s good Bar-B-Q cooking, it will be nice to have a little bit of Oregon brought back our way for the holidays.

I worked in the Prudential building years ago (almost a decade ago, in fact). It is a kick-butt building to work in. I highly recommend the Mexican place in the food court, if it's still there. Their burritos ruled.

That Flour-Daniel building is gigantic. I remmeber always wanting to play touch football in its wide corridors.

pet insurance?
